Minister Confirms Ministry of Defence Looking at Potential Threat from Vehicles from China, as Personnel Told to Refrain from Secret Talk in Vehicles.

An defense official has confirmed that the Ministry of Defence is actively examining the possible security risks associated with Chinese-made cars, while personnel have been told to refrain from talking about secret matters in all vehicles.

Security Guidance for Defence Personnel

In a recently aired appearance on a radio station, a defence minister addressed reports that Ministry of Defence officials have been instructed not to discuss classified information while travelling in China-made cars.

He stated that the ministry is “examining” Chinese vehicles within its fleets, however noted that safety is a issue in all modern cars.

Our department has a fleet of thousands of cars in the Ministry of Defence and those vehicles account for a very small number.
However regardless of if you’re traveling in a vehicle from China or a non-Chinese car, our instruction to our staff is not to plug Ministry of Defence devices into their vehicle, to avoid having discussions at a classified level in any vehicle, due to the increasing threats of surveillance that are present in all vehicle, to restrict those confidential talks in secure locations. This is a wise and reasonable thing for anyone worried about safety.

When it was put to him that it would be prudent for the MoD to cease using all cars from China, the minister responded: ‘That’s precisely what we are looking into at the present time.”

Wider Defence Background

This revelation follows reports from Scandinavian countries have alerted the United Kingdom to the presence of multi-purpose shutdown mechanisms in Chinese buses, which could enable the Chinese government to switch off public transport and bring disruption to public transit.

Furthermore, a Russian spy ship was reportedly shining lasers at RAF aircrew, labeled a “highly dangerous” action by government representatives.

This wider security environment underscores the importance of robust protocols and vigilance in every areas of government operations, from transport usage to communication practices.
