PSG Overcomes Olympique de Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Lift Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now secured the season-opening trophy on fourteen separate occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a dramatic leveler followed by a successful spot-kick decider to overcome Marseille in the Gulf and secure a fourth straight Trophee des Champions title.

The European champions appeared to be coasting towards a comfortable triumph in the match featuring the French league winners and the French Cup winners after the French winger opened the scoring in the opening stages.

Yet, Marseille fired twice in the closing moments to seize a shock lead. Initially, Mason Greenwood converted from the penalty spot, before the defender unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable twist of fortune, the Portuguese striker snatched a crucial equaliser in the dying seconds to send the match into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then emerged as the hero, stopping decisive attempts from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all scored with composure for PSG to complete a convincing shootout win.

The record champions Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now won this competition for the 12th time in the past thirteen seasons.
